Another Sunday

Most things closed so roads empty.
Took a roundabout route to Buxtehude and as usual found some interesting things
a German windmill and a racing pigeon house housing about 65 pigeons. Had hoped to see the owner but only the neighbour


 It's very wooded up here with fields of rape but also horses.
Stopped for a coffee in a tiny place. Quite a different decor but very friendly woman made me an enormous baguette.
So went to Bremenvorder and had half of it by the lake. Here there was a well known apothecary garden.
Sunday closing is lovely in both countries. People wander around stopping for a drink or walking in the parks and window shopping. I chose quite random places and here I am by another little lake with ducks and saw a grebe earlier. All very relaxed  and especially now the sun is shining

That is my hotel at the back the tall red building. In the picture below the lake is rimmed with Japanese knotweed.

 Month started off with warm weather and a thunderstorm by the 2nd. Ophelia had to make a themed bake so this is her Jonah and the whale - with a bit of help. I took the books up to the kids school - five for each class. Felt like a nice thing to do. Have painted some quite different pictures. Also taken one French one to be expensively framed and chap said it might sell. Jen was 80 so good party held in the Forbes pub in Ham. Horrific happenings between Israel and Hamas and the poor people in Gaza have been besieged.  Poor in every way.  This is some sort of genocide when the PM of Israel calls the Gaza people beasts. They live in a ghetto . Terrible terrible things going on from massacres to hostages. Ukraine has dropped off the news. At least we can watch the rugby world cup. Quarter finals coming up. Had a good days painting today from the top of a cliff over looking a waterfall and turquoise pool. Manet painted the bathers. This is my pic of the painters. Then with another painter, Cecile, a psychoanalyst, we went back to valensole to find Jean Nicholas Gerard.  Got some nice pieces. Two pics. o Of the 16 People here , of which I  am the oldest, there are 6 smokers all young, or seemed so. They smoke at the table which is less than pleasant. Luckily I have a separate room with an ensuite.  I have met three people before, last year which was nice to be greeted and a few do speak English  My French is better but no good for a conversation.

Iceland and Potfest at Compton Verney on 24th June.

Left home at 3.15am then picked up Chris in Witney. Easy trip in less than 3 hours but a long wait for car which was miles away from the Airport next time go for big name rental co.     Church in Reykjavik where we have a great lunch at Kol. Then drove across to Borgarnes through a very long tunnel under the sea then a long bridge over an estuary. The lupins are everywhere, mainly purple blue with a few white.  The houses in the countryside have vermilion rooves. The whole place is greener and warmer than expected. One of many farms. Some had large dairy units. There were also many sheep. A bit of snow. The Basalt Hotel was over a thin wooden bridge, it was warm and simple with good food. We then made our way to Geysir. You can see for miles and the roads are narrow, pothole free but take long detours around lakes.
