Taking a road North East I found Saint Fargeau.
Then motored trying to find a gas station. You can go 100km and not see one so when I found one before Sens there was a queue as others had the same problem.
Had hoped to find the paint shop open in Joigny but no luck.
This odd building in a field.
Booking.com does not say this but it seems I get breakfast included so not all bad.
The back of the cathedral. The flying buttresses are an important feature letting in the light. On my way to supper. There is a dog get together in the grounds and later groups of men in the bushes.
Had dinner at Millenaire
Look in the distance at the dog event.
Now as I write this it is 11pm and there is singing and bells and wonderful music coming from it. I'm sleeping about 50 yards away.Darcey's arm looks awful and she now needs to go to Stoke Mandeville, specialist burns unit.
After a good breakfast went to High Mass. It was billed as starting at 9.30 but when I got there at 9.15 was a good way through so missed the Kyrie and more.
Took some pics then was told to leave and not to photograph.
So then took a tram to the southern terminus for E1.80 which lasted for an hour. I didn't have enough change so a guy bought my ticket.
Returning I got off at Saint Thomas and walked to find the museum where Eisenhower signed the end of WW2. I though Churchill was there too? Closed.
By now my bladder requirements reminded me of yesterday's search for diesel, just as hard to find a cafe as most places closed on a Sunday.
Some more of the cathedral of Notre Dame. The iconography is rather lost on me. One of the very European-looking apostles seems to be holding on to a young slave boy.
A lot of chaps with wings. Didn't anyone ever query that nonsense?
What on earth are these, perhaps I should say what in heaven.
What on earth are these, perhaps I should say what in heaven.
Now pouring with rain and no coat so sheltering in a champagne bar where others are tasting.
Last day
Headed for Bethune where
there is a large Carrefour so I stocked up but no cheese or any animal products due to foot and mouth in France but then what about buying the same thing at home?
Then tried to get a decaf espresso at Hinge but no luck but they did have this monument listing everyone who died in the village during the wars.
In Hazebrouck had a late lunch of a crepe and coffee.
Finishing the trip in luxury.
Chateau Beaulieu which has a famous chef called Christophe Dufosse. The main restaurant is closed tonight which has probably saved me a whack.
Had a swim and sauna.
It's not the sort of hotel where you can wash your pants and hang them out of the window to dry.
