Awoke while at a station so quickly had a hot shower which is a mere meter from my cabin. Breakfast starts at 6.30 so as I have been allotted lunch slot at 11 had better go early.
But got up an hour too early as clocks went back.
Stopped to let a freight train through. Rained in the night and it's now 6am.
There are 4 constant noises and I'm not sure if one hears them all at the same time.
Tinnitus
A general hum
The clattering of the wheels on the rails
The whooshing as the train races through the air
Sometimes a sort of whine perhaps when the brakes are applied
Sometimes a horn or whistle
The air conditioning if it is on
So not a quiet time.
And once in the dining car the racket of those who talk too loudly.
Altogether I slept well and expect the scenery to be a bit different as we go towards the prairies but north too towards Winnipeg capital of Manitoba. I think of those early settlers who had to go through all the endless forests to get to the fertile land. There are little clearings along the way where people live or have cottages for fishing or hunting. Haven't seen anything to hunt.
Seen one hawk and some water birds.
Got up an hour early due it now being some other time for Winnipeg.
Sitting up in the dome just notice not only is there lots more snow but the birch trees have nearly gone now it's only coniferous which too show less diversity.
This is also not a luxury way to travel judging by the other passengers.
It looks like a dead world out there then I suddenly saw a sort of squirrely creature run across the snow. What do the deer do in winter here or are there none.
The freight train is passing.
Today a snowstorm.
If you watch the snow falling it changes direction all the time being at the whim of the slightest movement of air.
I have been hearing how Canada works. A province eg Manitoba keeps all the profits from what comes from the province. Eg oil or aluminum or wheat. I think that was what Carney was saying about internal changes needed between the provinces.
